Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged DVD Release
Thirteen years after Nirvana’s “MTV Unplugged in New York” CD was released, this legendary MTV Unplugged taping will finally be released on DVD.
According to Billboard.com, the taping will be released on DVD November 20th by Universal Music Enterprises. The record was initially made available on CD November 1st of year ‘94, the first album release after Kurt Cobain’s death in April of that year.
The Unplugged taping was recorded on November 18, 1993, and made lifelong effects for the band since the performance was aired, even after the death of this grunge band frontman. Songs that did not originally appear on the MTV broadcast are incorporated on the DVD, which are “Something in the Way” and “Oh Me.” There are also four tracks included from Nirvana’s sound check as well as previously unreleased behind-the-scenes footage, as stated by Billboard.
MTV Unplugged featured acoustic performances of different bands, and this live performance by Nirvana can be considered one of the most well-known acts in the entire airing of the show, as proven in the charts, particularly Nirvana’s live version of “About a Girl” reaching number one on Billboard’s Modern Rock tally. Along with, the band steered clear most of its hits in their performance, giving favor to their unfamiliar tracks and hazy covers like the three Meat Puppets songs.
